Dubbed the Lane Kiffin Bowl, it was Kiffin's current team that picked up the win Saturday, over his potential new employer.
As its coach continues to be linked to the vacant Gators coaching position, No. 7 Ole Miss beat Florida 34-24 to keep the Rebels (10-1, 6-1) firmly in the hunt for an SEC championship and a spot in the College Football Playoff.
A loss last year to Florida torpedoed Ole Miss' CFP hopes. Not this time.
Kewan Lacy led the way for the Rebels with a career-high 224 yards and three touchdowns. QB Trinidad Chambliss completed 26-of-35 passes for 301 yards and a score.
Florida led 24-20, but the Rebels rallied for the win. Here's how it happened:
1:43 4Q: Kewan Lacy gets another score
Florida goes for it on 4th-and-9 from their own goal line and DJ Lagway's prayer down the middle is knocked away by Ole Miss defenders. Rebels take over on the Gators' 4-yard line.
On the next play, Kewan Lacy punches it in to put this game away. OLE MISS 34, FLORIDA 24.
2:42 4Q: Gators are going to have a chance
On 3rd-and-goal from the 3-yard line, Ole Miss elects to throw, and Trinidad Chambliss is flushed out of the pocket and throws the ball out of the end zone.
They go for it on fourth down in hopes of a TD and ending the game, but the pass is incomplete. The Gators defense holds again. Still a game. Drive starts at Florida's own 3-yard line. OLE MISS 27, FLORIDA 24.
9:11 4Q: Big interception for Ole Miss
A tipped pass on 3rd-and-5 from the Ole Miss 30-yard line is intercepted by Wydett Williams. Rebels ball.
14:57 4Q: Kewan Lacy walks in for six
Ole Miss regains the lead with a 1-yard, walk-in touchdown by Kewan Lacy. He did the hard work to finish the third quarter and started the fourth quarter with a score. OLE MISS 27, FLORIDA 24.
END 3Q: Florida 24, Ole Miss 20
Kewan Lacy busts through for 59 yards and is brought down at the 1-yard line. Ole Miss knocking on the door. Will open the fourth quarter on the doorstep. Lacy now up to 204 rushing yards today on 23 carries.
2:43 3Q: Florida D getting to Trinidad Chambliss
Back-to-back sacks by the Gators and the Rebels have to punt. Ole Miss fans getting a little uneasy.
7:50 3Q: Gators hold at goal line, still lead
This drive brought to you by Fourth Down.
On 4th-and-7, Trinidad Chambliss completed a pass to himself for a conversion, and the Rebels converted a 4th-and-1 later in the drive as the offense picked up the tempo to keep the Gators on their heels. But Florida held at the goal line on another fourth down when Chambliss threw an incomplete pass on a slant from the 1-yard line. A 15-play, seven-minute drive comes up empty. FLORIDA 24, OLE MISS 20
HALFTIME: Florida leads Ole Miss at the break
Florida answered Ole Miss' field goal, with a field goal of their own to end the half. FLORIDA 24, OLE MISS 20.
1:52 2Q: Gators defense holds Ole Miss to FG
Ole Miss is forced to settle for a short field goal as the Florida defense holds. FLORIDA 21, OLE MISS 20.
6:54 2Q: DJ Lagway connects on long TD pass
DJ Lagway connects with J Michael Sturdivant on a season-high 75-yard TD pass to put Florida back up 21-17 on Ole Miss with 6:54 left in the second quarter. Lagway 5 of 8 for 112 yards passing and a TD, plus five carries for 32 yards and a rushing TD. Bouncing back nicely from performance at Kentucky. First TD catch for Sturdivant since Week 1 vs. Long Island. Florida 21, Ole Miss 17 with 6:54 left in second quarter. FLORIDA 21, OLE MISS 17.
9:39 2Q: Trinidad Chambliss strike gives Ole Miss lead again
Ole Miss caps a 10-play, 75-yard TD drive with a 43-yard TD pass by quarterback Trinidad Chambliss to wide receiver De'Zhaun Stribling, putting Ole Miss back up 17-14 on Florida with 9:39 left in the second quarter. A killer offsides penalty by Florida defensive lineman on third down Tyreak Sapp extended the drive, leading to Stribling's TD catch. OLE MISS 17, FLORIDA 14.
14:56 2Q: Florida takes lead over Ole Miss
With linebacker Aaron Chiles lined up as a fullback, running back Jadan Baugh scores on a two-yard TD run to put Florida up 14-10 on Ole Miss with 14:56 left in the second quarter. The Gators cash in seven points off the Jayden Woods interception. FLORIDA 14, OLE MISS 10.
1:13 1Q: DJ Lagway scores first career rushing TD for Florida
Florida scores its first points of the game behind the arm and legs of quarterback DJ Lagway. After connecting with receiver TJ Abrams on a 47-yard pass play, Lagway scores on a 5-yard TD run to cut the Ole Miss lead to 10-7 with 1:13 left in the first quarter. It was the first career rushing TD for Lagway, who has rushed five times for 26 yards. OLE MISS 10, FLORIDA 7.
9:09 1Q: Ole Miss takes early lead with Kewan Lacy TD
Ole Miss takes a 7-0 lead on Florida on a 12-play, 80-yard TD drive capped by a 2-yard TD run by running back Kewan Lacy. It's Lacy's 17th TD run of the season, which sets a new Ole Miss record for rushing TDs. OLE MISS 7, FLORIDA 0.

The Rebels have stumbled before when Kiffin's name has been linked to high-profile coaching vacancies, but they've been so much better than the Gators this season that it's hard to envision them falling, especially with their stout defense matching up against Florida's lethargic offense.
