HIGH POINT, N.C. — High Point city council member Amanda Cook has been nominated to fill the North Carolina House District 60 seat left vacant after former Rep. Cecil Brockman resigned. The Guilford County Democratic Party approved her nomination Friday, and her name now goes to Gov. Josh Stein for final appointment.

Brockman represented District 60, which covers parts of Guilford County and High Point, for nearly 10 years. He resigned on Oct. 31, 2025, after being arrested earlier that month and charged with two counts of statutory rape of a child and two counts of taking indecent liberties with a child, according to court records.

Cook said she began running for the seat months before Brockman’s arrest because voters told her they wanted change in the district.
