Losses of any kind are tough to take, but they don’t get much more heartbreaking than what Western Oregon endured Saturday at McArthur Field in Monmouth.
The Wolves let a two-touchdown lead slip away in the fourth quarter, and Central Washington quarterback Kennedy McGill threw a game-winning, 13-yard touchdown pass to Logan Brady as time expired, as the Wildcats won 19-17 to capture the NCAA Division II Lone Star Conference championship.
Central Washington (10-1, 9-0 Lone Star), which received the Lone Star’s automatic NCAA Division II playoff berth, began its winning drive with 1:47 left at the CWU 20. The drive included a first down conversion on fourth-and-10 — McGill to Brady for 15 yards — and McGill gained another first down on a fourth-and-3 run.
