Two of the biggest rivals in the ECHL renewed acquaintances on Saturday night at the Huntington Center where the Toledo Walleye knocked off the Fort Wayne Komets 2-1.

Forward Jordan Ernst scored early in the second period, Chad Hillebrand scored on the first shot of the third period, and rookie goalie Nolan Lalonde made the small cushion stand up. Lalonde finished with 22 saves as Toledo won its third straight game.

Both of Toledo’s goals came on long stretch passes from captain Brandon Hawkins from the Walleye’s goal line that led to breakaways.

It was the sixth game in nine days for the Walleye, who are now 7-3-0 through 10 games. The Komets (8-3-0) came in leading the Central Division with 10 points, while Toledo was in third place.
