AUBURN -- The Stearns Minutemen pulled off the upset against the powerhouse Old Orchard Beach Seagulls in the 8-Man Small state title game on Saturday.
The Seagulls struck first when quarterback Trot Moody sent a ball deep to Wesley Gallant, who pulled it in and took it to the house to put Old Orchard Beach up early.
The Minutemen responded well on their next drive, which was capped off with a long touchdown run by senior running back Lucas Pelkey, tying the game up.
Stearns climbed to a 20-12 lead, and in the fourth quarter, Gallant and the Seagulls struck again, which brought the game to within two, but they failed the two point conversion.
