The Maple Leafs were on a four-game skid and desperately looking for a boost heading into Saturday night’s game against the Blackhawks in Chicago.
Enter goaltender Joseph Woll, who made his first NHL start of the season after an AHL conditioning stint that followed a personal leave.
But while Woll looked steady in his return, the Leafs stretched that losing streak to five games by falling 3-2 to the Chicago Blackhawks.
“Right now, we’re just a little bit unconfident,” coach Craig Berube said after the game. “Gotta get through that because we had an opportunity to close this game out and win it.”
