Florida football's loss to Ole Miss marks the second time in the last three years that the Gators will not become bowl eligible.
Prior to 2013, Florida won at least six games every season, dating back to 1979, which was Charlie Pell's winless season. The 1978 season, coached by Doug Dickey, and the 1979 season are also the last times in a comparable short span that the Gators did not win at least six games.
However, since 2013, Florida has missed bowl eligibility four times. The first was under Will Muschamp, who went 4-8 in his third season leading the Gators. In 2017, which was Jim McElwain’s final year, UF finished 4-7.
The most recent occurrence was in 2023 under Billy Napier. The Gators went on a 5-game losing streak to end the season with a 5-7 record to conclude Napier's second
