The victim was identified by the medical examiner’s office as Robert Gunn Jr., 15.
According to Chicago police, the shooting occurred about 12:38 p.m. after a verbal altercation between Gunn and an unknown person, who shot the boy in the chest.
Pastor Donovan Price, known for his advocacy work with shooting and homicide victims and their families, told the Sun-Times he arrived at the hospital shortly after the shooting. Price said he has known Gunn’s family for a while and had baptized him this summer.
“He’s noticeably nice, different from many other teenagers,” Price said. “He’s kind of the kid that you hope for.”
