LAKE CITY — Scrolls that are as vivid and colorful as the South Carolina stories they contain will soon take the stage at the John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.
The tightly wrapped fabric scrolls will join more than 250,000 others from across the country, turning thousands of individual stories into a collaborative art exhibition designed to celebrate next year’s 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
The National Scrollathon, a collaborative creative project by artists and brothers William and Steven Ladd, has made hundreds of stops across the United States. Dozens in Lake City, a town of about 6,000 in Florence County , joined one of these events to help ensure South Carolina is part of the birthday celebration.
