UPDATE: 6:30 p.m.
The Honolulu Police Department reported Saturday that a 50-year-old visitor died Wednesday due to injuries suffered in a Nov. 8 assault in Waikiki.
The victim’s name and other details about the case were not released.
Soon after the assault, police arrested a 43-year-old man for suspicion of second-degree attempted murder, and in light of the victim’s death, HPD said the case has been reclassified as second-degree murder.
The attack occured around 12:21 a.m. Nov. 8 fronting the Waikiki Beachside Hostel on Lemon Road, where the suspect, “without provocation,” punched the victim once, causing him to fall and hit his head, causing severe head injuries. He was taken to an undisclosed hospital and was pronounced dead at approximately 8:56 p.m. Wednesday, according to HPD.
