DALLAS — Suzie Humphreys Mayo, a beloved former radio and TV personality in North Texas, has died.

Humphreys grew up in San Antonio, but eventually moved to Dallas to work as a secretary, where she got her big break after auditioning for a show called “Bottom’s Up," according to a biography in the UNT Digital Library .

She did a cross-country tour with the group before she returned to Texas to start her radio and TV career.

Humphreys was hired as a co-anchor for a popular morning show on WFAA called “News 8 etc…” in the 1970s along with co-hosts Don Harris and Gene Thomas.

During her tenure on the show, Humphreys interviewed the likes of Ray Charles, John Wayne and Bruce Cabot.
