MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Church of God in Christ (COGIC) filed a lawsuit against Moses Tyson Jr., accusing the gospel musician and organist of libel and slander.

In the lawsuit, COGIC argued that Tyson has "repeatedly and widely published demonstrably false statements in emails, on social media, and in video broadcasts..."

The organization said that Tyson "recklessly and knowingly" accused them of crimes such as grand theft, fraud, and elder abuse. These accusations have harmed COGIC's "charitable reputation," mission, membership, and donations, according to the church. COGIC asked a judge to grant $500,000 for injuries and punitive damages.
