Last week, five of eight area high school football teams won their first round CIF playoff games. It came a year after just one local team — Shadow Hills High School — won a first round game.

In fact, this year has a chance to be a historic one for local teams. With five desert teams remaining in the CIF Southern Section playoffs, and three of them being No. 1 seeds, and a fourth team being a fourth seed, the chances of having multiple teams in the CIF-SS semifinals appear to be pretty good.
