The Indian Meteorological Department on Sunday predicted light to moderate rainfall at isolated places in Chennai and Tamil Nadu. The rainfall forecast has been prompted by the formation of a low-pressure area over the southwest Bay of Bengal, near the Sri Lanka coast.
An orange alert has been issued for Tamil Nadu’s Pudukkottai, Thiruvarur and Mayiladuthurai districts today, while a yellow alert has been sounded for Thoothukudi, Madurai, the Nilgiris, Sivagangai and several other areas.
According to the Met Centre Thiruvananthapuram warning, a yellow alert has been issued for the entire Kerala.
The IMD warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall which is likely to occur at isolated places over Villupuram, Chennai, Chengalpattu, Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattina
