A booth level officer (BLO) deployed by the Election Commission of India for the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Kerala died by suicide on Sunday.
The family of the BLO, 44-year-old Aneesh George from Kannur, claimed that he was facing pressure in efforts to complete the process within the stipulated time.
George, who worked as an office assistant at an aided upper primary school in Kannur district, was found dead at his house on Sunday.
Kerala Chief Electoral Officer Dr Rathan U Kelkar said, “We are awaiting a report from the District Collector, Kannur, in this regard. We will react after getting the report from the Collector.”
George was assigned the 18th booth, under Payyannur Assembly constituency. His family friend and neighbour, Thamban, said George
