When the second-highest official at the Department of Justice calls for a “war” on federal judges, every American, regardless of party, should be alarmed.

At a recent gathering of the Federalist Society, Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche described an ongoing “war” against “rogue” judges who, in his view, obstruct the administration’s agenda.

The Federalist Society audience that applauded Blanche’s remarks should take no comfort in this so-called “war.” Indeed, while Blanche’s pugilistic statement may have delighted the gathering of conservative lawyers, I’d suggest that they should take a step back and consider what Blanche’s bellicose rhetoric truly represents.
