FOLLY BEACH — Voters are heading back to the polls of this funky beach community to decide which new face will lead the island as mayor for the first time in 15 years.
Appearing on the ballot are Elton Culpepper , a realtor with some mayoral experience already under his belt, and City Councilman Chris Bizzell , a web developer.
Culpepper was the top vote-getter on election night receiving 36 percent of the votes. Bizzell trailed slightly behind at 30 percent.
But Folly Beach’s elections operate as a majority, meaning a candidate needs to receive more than 50 percent of the turnout to win the mayor’s seat. Voters whittled down the ballot from five candidates to two on Nov. 4.
Candidates Katherine Houghton, Ann Peets and D.J. Rich were defeated in the first go-round.
