Evanston’s Deputy Fire Chief William “Bill” Muno is retiring from the department after 39 years of service, according to a Nov. 6 news release from the City of Evanston.

Muno, who joined the department in 1986 as a firefighter, was promoted three times before being sworn in as the department’s Deputy Chief in 2021. A reception and walk-out ceremony to honor Muno and his service is scheduled for Nov. 21 from 12 to 5 p.m. at the fire department’s headquarters at 909 Lake St., Evanston.

Addressing the City Council at its Nov. 10 meeting, Muno thanked his family for attending and his colleagues for their support during his career.

“It’s an amazing run that I’ve had. I can’t think of a bad day that I ever had,” Muno said. “It’s the greatest job in the world. If I could do it all over again,
