The 19th Street bridge over Interstate 83 was blown up overnight Saturday, Nov. 15, to Sunday, Nov. 16.
Interstate 83 was closed for about nine hours while crews demolished the bridge then removed the debris. It was expected to reopen by 8 a.m. Sunday morning.
The demolition is part of the ongoing and massive Interstate 83 Capital Beltway project that will not be completed until around 2040.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation said 19 th Street is expected to remain closed through next year, with the estimated opening sometime in late November/early December 2026. The ramps are expected to reopen in the spring of 2027.
