Iwas glad to see the editorial on the passage of the Portland Parks levy, (“ Editorial: Don’t pop the corks on parks levy win, ” Nov. 9). I’ve been a long-time supporter of funding for schools, libraries, parks and other such community resources. However, I voted “no” this time, as did many of my neighbors and friends.
Why? The editorial pretty much laid it out. I could find no detail on how these monies would be spent, solidifying my perception that city officials believe we - the taxpayers - will continue to bankroll mismanagement without demanding accountability.
The fact that the levy passed with 56% of the vote, compared to 64% in 2020, should indeed be a wake-up call for officials. They need to show some results before asking for more of our already-stretched dollars.
