LOUISVILLE, Ky. — According to Feeding America, over 750,000 Kentuckians are facing hunger. With grocery costs rising and holiday spending just around the corner, many families across the state are unsure how they will afford a family meal on Thanksgiving Day. Community sponsors and businesses handed out over 1,000 pounds of free turkeys on Saturday to help combat holiday hunger and support South Louisville families.

“I am ready for Thanksgiving,” said longtime South Louisville resident Michael Bashal, “and finally [we get] something we haven’t had in a long time, something free.”

Standing at the front of the line, Bashal said he showed up to the Olympus Chet & Family Turkey Drive an hour early to ensure he had enough food to feed his loved ones this holiday season.
