After missing the first 13 games of the season, Adou Thiero scored his first career points in the NBA on Saturday as the Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Milwaukee Bucks.
Thiero logged 4 minutes, 41 seconds, recording four points in the 119-95 victory at the Fiserv Forum as the Lakers improved to 10-4. His first two points came at the free-throw line in the fourth quarter, before he threw down a dunk in transition, assisted by Bronny James.
The team managed to secure the game ball for Thiero afterward, following some confusion between the officials and players. He was appreciative of those efforts, as well as the positive reaction from his teammates on his fastbreak dunk.
"I heard them whenever I dunked the ball," Thiero said, via Spectrum SportsNet. "I could hear them, so that was pretty hype. But coming down and seeing everybody flexing all over the bench, it was a good feeling for everybody to be happy for me."
Thiero was sidelined to begin the season after undergoing surgery to repair a left knee hyperextension sustained last season at Arkansas. He was cleared for additional on-court work last month, culminating in the team clearing him to play this week.
The 36th pick was highly touted as a draft prospect this year because of his ability to score in the paint, physicality and defensive instincts. He also caught the attention of several teammates and the coaching staff with his athleticism, which coach JJ Redick called "insane."
The Lakers have dealt with several injuries to begin the season and were ecstatic to get Thiero back in the fold. He wants to contribute in any way he is asked to and is eager to see the team continue to improve as more players return from injury.
"I feel like we got a great team," Thiero said. "The things we were able to accomplish, and we don't even have LeBron James yet. I feel like we're still figuring some things out, but when we fully get everything down, we got a chance to be something special."
