Irish eyes are smiling indeed.

Troy Parrott’s last-minute winner against Hungary gave Ireland a 3-2 thrilling comeback win in Budapest to book its spot in World Cup qualifying playoff.

Parrott’s winner in the 90+6 minute completed a hat trick for the AZ Alkmaar striker and put Ireland ahead of Hungary in Group F's runner-up spot, which earned it a playoff place. Ireland hasn’t qualified for the World Cup since 2002.

Parrott, who scored two goals in Ireland's midweek 2-0 win over Portugal, opened the scoring for Ireland with a penalty kick in the 15th minute and tied the score in the 80th with a looping chip over the goalie.

"This is what dreams are made of. I don't think I'll ever have a better night in my life," a teary-eyed Parrott told Irish TV after the game.

Who is Troy Parrott?

The 23-year-old began his professional career at Tottenham Hotspur and was billed as the academy's next great striker after it produced Harry Kane. But Parrott never got his career off and running with Spurs and was sent out on multiple loans. He eventually found a home in Holland, scoring 10 goals at Excelsior in the Eredivisie. That earned him a move higher up the Dutch food chain to AZ Alkmaar, where he has scored 20 league goals in the past season-plus.
