THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The KSRTC is preparing to convert its old diesel buses to CNG, following Tamil Nadu’s model. In Tamil Nadu, the project is being carried out through three companies, with plans to convert 1,000 diesel buses to CNG. Two of these companies have also approached KSRTC with similar proposals.

KSRTC wants to include buses that are more than 15 years old in the conversion plan, which currently covers 10-year-old vehicles. According to central government rules, government vehicles that are older than 15 years cannot be used. However, through special orders, KSRTC continues to operate buses older than 15 years. Converting these buses to CNG could benefit the corporation.
