WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A 30-year-old man died Saturday evening after being hit by a vehicle on Peters Creek Parkway, according to the Winston-Salem Police Department.
Officers were called to the scene around 6:14 p.m. and found the pedestrian, Muhammed Shaffi Lawrence, dead when they arrived. Police say the driver stayed at the scene, was not hurt, and cooperated with investigators.
According to the initial investigation, the driver ran into the southbound lanes of Peters Creek Parkway from the median. Police say it was dark at the time, and Lawrence was wearing dark clothing, making it difficult for the driver to see him. Gonzalez was traveling south and was unable to avoid the collision, investigators said.
The WSPD Traffic Enforcement Unit has taken over the investigation. Next of kin
