A 58-year-old woman was killed Saturday morning after being struck by an SUV while walking her dog in north Edmonton. This incident marks the city's 30th traffic fatality of 2025, according to police reports.

The collision occurred around 9 a.m. MT at a marked crosswalk on 153rd Avenue, near 82nd Street, in the Mayliewan neighborhood. The woman was crossing the street with her dog when a southbound 2024 Nissan Rogue, driven by a 36-year-old woman, turned left and hit her.

The driver of the Nissan Rogue remained at the scene and was not injured. Staff Sgt. Mike Wasylyshen of the Edmonton Police Service's traffic services branch emphasized the importance of road safety. "When you get behind the wheel, slow down, remain aware of your surroundings and remember that the decisions you make can have life-altering consequences," he stated in a news release.

The EPS major collision investigations section is currently looking into the incident. Authorities have indicated that speed and alcohol are not believed to be factors in the collision. Police are urging anyone who may have witnessed the event or has dash camera footage to contact them at 780-423-4567.
