ORANGEBURG, S.C. (WCSC) - Dr. Barbara Rose Hatton, who is considered a pioneering educator who served as the South Carolina State University’s first woman president, has died, the school has confirmed.
Hatton, 84, died Monday in Boston, Massachusetts.
Hatton served as the university’s seventh president from 1992 to 1995. She converted the Felton Laboratory School into a state-of-the-art professional development school, which allowed engineering technology graduates to sit for the engineering licensure examination, and increased collaborations and projects with colleges, universities and federal and private agencies.
