The 10th annual Crash Responder Safety Week (CRSW), a moment to recognize the risks taken by traffic incident responders across the country, starts Monday.
This year’s CRSW comes one month after Ohio State Trooper Nicholas Cayton was killed in a crash on State Route 11 in Canfield. Cayton died Oct. 16 after 35-year-old Ryan Rach of Canfield rear-ended his Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSP) cruiser, pushing it into the disabled tractor-trailer Cayton had stopped to assist.
No charges have been filed in the case, and an OSP crash report obtained by 21 News earlier this month indicates Rach was not impaired by drugs or alcohol at the time of the crash. However, the crash report said he may have been distracted by an unknown factor.
