OCONEE COUNTY, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - The Oconee County Coroner’s Office said that a man died Saturday afternoon after apparently falling from a boat while fishing.

Officials said the incident occurred in the Tugaloo River section of Lake Hartwell near the South Union Community of Oconee County.

The coroner said a missing boater was reported to Oconee 911 Communications at 6:11 p.m. His body was located and recovered by divers at 8:20 p.m. in a water depth reported to be eight feet.

At approximately 2:30 p.m., the victim’s son and a friend were dropped off from the boat along the shoreline to go deer hunting. The victim informed them he was going to fish. When they exited the woods at approximately 5:40 p.m., the boat was observed midway in the cove and unoccupied.
