Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders announced Sunday afternoon that she has scheduled March 3 special elections for the District 26 Senate seat previously held by state Sen. Gary Stubblefield, R-Branch, and for the District 70 House seat previously held by state Rep. Carlton Wing, R-North Little Rock.
Stubblefield died Sept. 2. Wing resigned Sept. 30 after he was selected to be the executive director of Arkansas PBS on Sept. 17.
Sanders had previously announced that she would hold off on a special election for Stubblefield's and Wing's seats until June, which would have left the residents of Senate District 26 and House District 70 without representation for the upcoming fiscal session of the Legislature.
Rulings from the Pulaski County Circuit Court said the vacancies must be filled before Jun
