With two teams going head-to-head having never won a state championship, one of them was going to leave with a brand new trophy in tow.

Either way, history was going to be made.

In straight sets, Mother Seton captured its first state title with a 25-16, 25-16, 25-18 win over Montclair Kimberley in the NJSIAA/Wilson Non-Public B final on Sunday afternoon at Franklin High School.

“It means everything,” said Mother Seton junior Madison Porter. “We worked so hard to get here. This was for our seniors and our coach. To be the first team to win in our history means a lot.”

Coach Tom Moran, who won his 350th career game in the South, N-P B sectional final against Rutgers Prep, reflected on his team’s standout win over the Cougars.
