RICHLAND, Wash. – The Richland City Council will revisit an ordinance that introduces a new sales and use tax to fund pavement preservation.
If the ordinance is approved during the council’s regular meeting on Tuesday, the ordinance, set to take effect on April 1, 2026, would replace the current $20 vehicle license fee with a 0.1% sales tax.
This decision follows the council’s approval of an ordinance on October 7, 2025, which aimed to replace the vehicle license fee with the sales tax starting January 1, 2026. However, the Department of Licensing could not meet this timeline, prompting the council to adjust the effective date.
