Lebanon's president has asked the foreign minister to file a complaint against Israel for building a wall inside Lebanese territory.
The president's office said Saturday the complaint should include a statement from the United Nations peacekeeping force, UNIFIL.
UNIFIL, which is deployed along the border, reported on Friday that the Israeli army had erected a wall southwest of the Lebanese village of Yaroun.
The wall crossed the border line, rendering more than 4,000 square meters (43,000 square feet) of Lebanese territory inaccessible.
UNIFIL informed the Israeli army and requested the wall's removal, stating it violates a U.N. Security Council resolution and Lebanon's sovereignty.
A statement released by President Joseph Aoun’s office said he had asked the foreign minister to use UNIFIL's statement in the complaint.
The Security Council resolution ended the 14-month Israel-Hezbollah war with a U.S.-brokered ceasefire, reached in November last year.
The war started when militants began firing rockets across the border a day after the deadly Hamas-led incursion into southern Israel.
Israel responded with shelling and airstrikes, and the two sides soon became locked in an escalating conflict that became a full-blown war.
The Israeli military says the wall, construction of which began in 2022, is part of a broader plan for reinforcements along the border.
It says that since the start of the war, it has been advancing a series of measures, including reinforcing the physical barrier along the northern border.
It adds it should be emphasized that the wall does not cross the so-called Blue Line.
That's the boundary between Lebanon and Israel drawn up by the U.N., which UNIFIL monitors and patrols.
