Josh Naylor won’t be coming to the American League East.

The first baseman agreed to a five-year deal to remain with the Seattle Mariners on Sunday night, ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported .

Naylor was traded to Seattle by the Arizona Diamondbacks at last year’s deadline. He helped the Mariners to the American League Championship Series, where they eventually fell to the Toronto Blue Jays.

In 54 games for Seattle, Naylor batted .299 with nine home runs and 33 RBI. He had five home runs throughout the postseason.

Naylor was linked to the Red Sox during the trade deadline and was deemed a “best fit” for Boston this offseason.
