JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. —
Several people had to be rescued Sunday morning after a fire broke out in an apartment building in Jeffersonville.
Just after 9 a.m., Jeffersonville firefighters were called out to the 100 block of Market Street for a fire alarm.
As crews were on the way to the scene, they received reports that smoke was pouring from an apartment and filling nearby units, which upgraded the incident to a structure fire.
When firefighters arrived at the scene, they made their way up to the fifth floor where they found heavy smoke in the hallway.
They were then able to locate the burning apartment and extinguish the flames.
As that was happening, other crews on scene helped residents evacuate from their units.
Several residents were evaluated by paramedics but were later release
