WINNIPEG — American rapper MGK energized the crowd at Winnipeg's Princess Auto Stadium during the halftime show of the 112th Grey Cup. The artist, formerly known as Machine Gun Kelly, performed a medley of his popular songs, including "Don't Wait Run Fast" from his latest album, released this year.
Fans welcomed MGK with a dazzling display of lights from their phones, creating a vibrant atmosphere. He donned a football jersey for his performance, although it did not represent either of the competing teams, the Saskatchewan Roughriders or the Montreal Alouettes. During his set, MGK expressed gratitude to the audience, saying, "Thank you for letting us perform during this championship game."
The event kicked off with a pre-show featuring Canadian rock band Our Lady Peace, who performed three songs. The national anthem was sung by Manitoba country artist Catie St. Germain.
Prime Minister Mark Carney was also present at the game, where he conducted the traditional coin toss at center field to determine which team would make the first move. His appearance was met with mixed reactions from the crowd, including both cheers and boos. Despite the mixed reception, Carney smiled, waved, and took photos with fans in attendance.
Before the game, many fans, dressed in Rider green, participated in a tailgate party outside the stadium, adding to the festive atmosphere of the day. The Grey Cup continues to be a significant event in Canadian football, drawing fans from across the country to celebrate the sport and its culture.
