Supercars legend Allan Moffat is living through the late stages of dementia and now has little connection to his former life as one of Australia's most celebrated racing icons.

Mr Moffat dominated Australian motorsport through the 1970s and 1980s, winning the Bathurst 1000 four times and the Sandown 500 six times, and earning places in both the Sport Australia Hall of Fame and the V8 Supercars Hall of Fame.

He first revealed his Alzheimer's disease in 2019 .

While the racing great still enjoys watching motorsport on television, he struggles to recall the life he lived on the track, his business adviser and carer Phil Grant told The Senior .
