An annual Walk for Reconciliation is finally set to go ahead at Galup (Lake Monger) later this month after it was postponed in June due to bad weather.

The walk is organised by Reconciliation WA with support from the Town of Cambridge and will be held on October 30 at the recently renamed landmark.

Earlier this year, the Geographic Names Committee endorsed the dual naming of Lake Monger as Galup, meaning “place where the home fires burn”, after a campaign by the town and strong community support.

Mayor Gary Mack said the recognition marked an important step in Cambridge’s reconciliation journey and made this year’s event especially meaningful.

“We are pleased to host Reconciliation WA’s 2025 Walk for Reconciliation at our beautiful Galup Reserve,” he said.
