NEW ORLEANS — Protesters filled the streets of Charlotte this week as U.S. Border Patrol launched operations in the city, marking the latest expansion of the federal government’s immigration-enforcement efforts.
The deployment follows earlier operations in Washington, D.C., Chicago and Los Angeles. During an appearance in June, Vice President J.D. Vance referenced unrest in Los Angeles while criticizing illegal immigration.
“What a great city Los Angeles is and what a great tragedy it is that we have illegal immigration and rioting to destroy — I think — one of the great gems of the American family,” Vance said.
