The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will drop its mandated reduction in domestic flights this week as concerns over air traffic safety ease following the end of the federal shutdown.

As the federal shutdown dragged out into the longest shutdown in U.S. history, the FAA ordered a reduction of domestic flights in order to ease the burden on thinning airport and air traffic control staffing at dozens of the nation's busiest airports, which had to cut back personnel due to lack of funding and pay.

With the shutdown concluded, however, the FAA warned that it might still take a few weeks to resume the usual level of travel as it worked to restaff airports and air traffic control at the nations.
