JEFF DAVIS COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - We continue to follow the news of a massive fire that broke out in Jeff Davis County Saturday afternoon.
“It’s pretty hard to deal with right now, mentally, everything that we had is gone,” said Cassandra Abbey, a victim of this weekend’s fire.
Abbey and her husband lost everything in the fire that began around 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon along Amy Road and Hatton Still Road.
She said the destruction is too much to bare.
“It was huge, it was like nothing I’ve ever seen,” said Abbey. The Red Cross put the couple up in a hotel in the meantime and is providing assistance.
Hazlehurst-Jeff Davis County Fire Rescue’s Captain Herndon says the fire took several hours to extinguish. It involved 10 different departments and 76 personnel to put out the flames.
