Anthony Albanese has rebuffed Turkey’s latest ploy to get its hands on next year's COP climate meeting, even as critics slam the eye-watering cost such an event would have.

Turkey’s president Recep Tayyip Erdogan reportedly wrote to the Prime Minister last week “maintaining” his country’s position on the deadlock over who will host the conference, adding he wanted Australia to consider a “co-presidency”.

The nations are both vying to host the United Nations climate summit next year, but if a resolution cannot be met, it will be held in Bonn, Germany, at the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) headquarters.

Australia, however, will not co-host the summit, Mr Albanese said.
