The weather phenomenon that caused the infamous 'Beast from the East' snowstorm in 2018 could be about to occur over Scotland again.
The so-called Beast from the East sent temperatures across the country plummeting in February 2018, with several areas seeing as much as 20 inches of snow settle on the ground.
It was caused by a weather phenomenon known as sudden stratospheric warming (SSW). Despite its name, this can bring subzero temperatures and Arctic conditions to our shores - and now, as reported by the Mirror , forecasters say SSW might be about to occur once more.
The Met Office describes SSW as a rapid warming (up to about 50C in just a couple of days) in the stratosphere, between 10km and 50km above the earth’s surface.
