A whistleblower’s appearance before a parliamentary committee in 2024 sparked a flurry of concerned texts by public servants as they worried he would reveal the defence department had violated his privacy a number of times.

Navy Lt. Patrick White testified before a parliamentary defence committee on April 17, 2024, about the navy leadership’s attempts to cover up the actions of an alleged sexual predator who is referred to in some internal military records only as “Officer X.” White, assigned to an Ottawa-based naval reserve unit, also warned members of Parliament there was a danger of further risk since Officer X had a civilian job in which he had direct influence over children.
