Food banks always need Thanksgiving and Christmas donations. They have been especially swamped with demand due to the temporary halt of SNAP benefits during the federal government shutdown.
Here is just a glimpse of some organizations that need donations or volunteer help during the holidays:
MARION COUNTY
+ Bring the Harvest Home: This annual countywide tradition aims to collect nonperishable food, baby supplies and hygiene items during the holidays. A list of dropoff places and needed items is at https://www.marionfl.org/our-county/bring-the-harvest-home . A collection event and gathering will be 7:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Dec. 5 on the Ocala downtown square.
+ Interfaith Emergency Services: The center is at 435 NW Second St., Ocala. Call 352-629-8868, or visit https://www.iesmarion.o
