As provinces across Canada see slowing growth in the number of people accessing medical assistance in dying, Manitoba's " fairly flat" MAID numbers in recent years could point to where the rest of the country is headed, one expert says.
The number of Canadians receiving a medica lly ass isted death has continued to climb each year since it was legalized in 2016, with more than 15,000 getting MAID in 2023 , according to the federal government's most recent annual report. However, the rate of growth slowed to about 16 per cent that year, after an average annual growth of about 31 per cent between 2019 and 2022.
