I'm going against the grain to say that autumn and winter are my favourite times for a scenic walk or bike ride in Wales. It can be a quieter time to plod along forested landscapes, and you can enjoy a hot chocolate in cosy cafes, or a proper pub lunch in the countryside.

One of my local walking and biking routes is also my favourite, taking you to two castles, along a river, and through parklands and urban forests - The Taff Trail.

One section of this popular trail starts at Cardiff Castle and runs to Castell Coch, primarily following the River Taff and passing through Bute Park.
