There are perspectives from which a snap federal election call might make sense. There are far more perspectives from which it looks like a fever dream trapped in a bubble. Many of them have to do with the New Democrats, who aren’t even an official party in the House of Commons.
The Liberals have no good reason to go early. There’s no evidence they’re not getting their way in the House. And there is always the risk of voter backlash if a governing party is perceived to be jumping the gun purely to press its advantage. We are currently only seven months removed from the last federal vote.
It’s slightly more complicated for the Conservatives: the party as a whole might have better reason to wait than their leader.
