Two members of the management committee of the Shahi Jama Masjid in Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal district have been booked for allegedly obstructing an Archaeological Survey of India team during an inspection related to conservation work, PTI reported on Sunday.

The first information report was filed on November 14.

According to the complaint, a team from the agency’s Meerut Circle led by Vinod Kumar Rawat had visited the centrally protected monument on October 8 to assess the structure ahead of conservation work, the Hindustan Times reported.

During the inspection, a staffer from the mosque committee named Hafiz allegedly summoned another man, Mohammad Kashif Khan, and both allegedly stopped the officials from entering the main dome area of the monument.
