After a lacklustre ninth-place finish in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, Rajasthan Royals pressed the reset button by turning to Kumar Sangakkara to revive their fortunes, with the former Sri Lanka skipper set to perform the dual role of head coach and director of cricket in the next season, with Vikram Rathour, batting coach last season, promoted to lead assistant coach.

Sangakkara, who previously served as head coach from 2021 to 2024, before making way for former India head coach Rahul Dravid in the 18th edition. However, following the team’s forgettable show in the 2025 edition, Dravid parted ways with the franchise, prompting the change in guard ahead of IPL 2026.
